Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz inaugurated a groundbreaking initiative to provide assistive devices to people with disabilities across the province during a special ceremony.
In a heartfelt moment, CM Maryam brought a young boy named Aqeel who had lost an arm in an accident on stage.
Using a robotic arm controlled by his brain signals, Aqeel was able to move his hand for the first time. Little Sohail, another child participant, gave a high-five to the Chief Minister, symbolizing hope and progress.
Maryam Nawaz personally distributed automated wheelchairs, tri-wheel scooters, and other mobility aids to children and encouraged them warmly.
The event was attended by over 300 persons with disabilities from all over Punjab. Under the Rs1 billion initiative, assistive devices—including artificial limbs, hearing aids, and various types of wheelchairs—will be distributed free of cost across the province.
The program includes manual and motorized wheelchairs, tricycles, tri-motorcycles, walking frames, pediatric chairs, toilet chairs, and customized controlled wheelchairs. Prosthetic limbs and hearing aids will also be provided based on individual requirements.
The Chief Minister sat among the participants and kept a young girl close to her, reflecting a compassionate approach. Children with speech and hearing impairments performed the national anthem and recited Quranic verses using sign language, leaving a lasting impact on attendees.
Provincial Minister Sohail Shaukat Butt also addressed the audience and provided a detailed briefing on the project.
