Lahore High Court (LHC) Chief Justice Ms. Aalia Neelum has issued special directives to ensure that litigants appearing in subordinate courts across Punjab are provided with adequate facilities, particularly in light of the ongoing summer heat.
In what is being hailed as a historic step, Chief Justice Neelum has instructed all district and session judges to prioritize the comfort and dignity of litigants, many of whom travel from remote areas to seek justice.
According to official correspondence issued from the LHC, session judges have been directed to ensure that no litigant is left sitting on the ground. “Proper seating arrangements, including benches, must be provided so that those coming to court can sit comfortably while they wait,” the directive stated.
Justice Neelum also emphasized the need for clean and cold drinking water at all court premises, along with an increase in the number of fans to combat the rising temperatures.
“These are basic facilities, and it is our responsibility to ensure that every individual who enters a courtroom feels respected and cared for,” she remarked.
The Chief Justice has sought immediate implementation reports from all session judges across Punjab to confirm compliance with her orders.
The move has been widely welcomed by legal practitioners and human rights advocates, who say such steps reflect a much-needed shift toward a more people-centric judicial system.
