A police constable was martyred and one terrorist killed in an attack on a polio vaccination team in South Waziristan’s Azam Warsak area on Monday.
According to police, the attackers launched a heavy assault on the polio team, prompting a half-hour-long gunfight. One terrorist was killed in the exchange, while others fled. The martyred constable lost his life in the line of duty.
The slain terrorist was identified as Afnan. Authorities recovered two ID cards, three ATM cards, and a mobile phone from his possession. From the fleeing terrorists, security forces recovered an SMG, a rocket launcher, and two motorcycles.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned the attack, expressed deep sorrow over the constable’s martyrdom, and directed immediate medical care for the injured.
He labeled those targeting polio workers and their protectors as enemies of both humanity and the nation, pledging they would be brought to justice.
