Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has called on the people of Punjab to attend a public rally at Minar-e-Pakistan on April 27, introducing a new alliance under the banner of Ittehad-e-Ummat to promote unity among religious parties and show support for Palestine.
Speaking during a visit to Mansoora, the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) headquarters, Maulana Fazl, warmly received by JI chief Hafiz Naeemur Rehman, extended condolences over the passing of Professor Khurshid Ahmad and stressed the importance of collective action in response to the Gaza crisis.
“There’s strength in unity. If we come together, we can do much more for Gaza. Our rulers must rise to the occasion,” he said, dismissing concerns about a pro-Israel lobby in Pakistan.
Fazl also criticised the government’s unilateral decision-making, especially regarding new canal projects, saying such initiatives require consensus among provinces.
He acknowledged differing views on the 26th Constitutional Amendment but said JUI-F and JI share common ground on electoral rigging concerns.
JI chief Hafiz Naeem echoed Fazl’s stance on Gaza and reiterated JI’s rejection of the 26th Amendment. He emphasized transparency in election results through Form-45 over holding immediate elections.
“The country needs constitutional supremacy and transparency, not hasty polls,” he said, highlighting economic challenges and urging institutions to respect constitutional boundaries.
