Most plain areas of the country are currently in the grip of a heatwave, with the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) issuing an alert forecasting soaring temperatures until April 30.
According to the PMD, a high-pressure system in the upper atmosphere has led to a significant rise in daytime temperatures across much of Pakistan. Southern regions, including Sindh, southern Punjab, and Balochistan, are expected to experience daytime temperatures 5 to 7 degrees Celsius above normal, with the intense heat likely to persist until May 1.
Several areas are already feeling the impact, as temperatures climbed to 45°C in Dadu and 42°C in Nawabshah, Larkana, and Sibi. In southern Punjab, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rahim Yar Khan, Sahiwal, and Bahawalnagar recorded temperatures around 39°C.
Meanwhile, Karachi is experiencing hot and humid conditions, with temperatures forecasted to rise to 38°C.
On Friday, maximum temperatures of 45°C were recorded in six districts, including Dadu, Jacobabad, Sukkur, Larkana (Sindh), and Lasbela and Sibi (Balochistan), according to the PMD's latest weather update.
