K-Electric (KE), the city’s sole power distributor, has announced that uninterrupted electricity supply is being maintained in several areas of Karachi, including Jamshed Road, Nafeesabad, Guru Mandir, Patel Para, and Garden West despite the accumulation of heavy outstanding dues.
In a statement issued on Saturday, a KE spokesperson clarified that the load-shedding pattern across the city is determined by the level of electricity theft and line losses in each area. The spokesperson further disclosed that defaulters in Jamshed Road and Nafeesabad collectively owe over Rs950 million in unpaid dues.
Garden East residents are behind on payments exceeding Rs100 million, while those in Lasbela and Patel Para have racked up dues amounting to over Rs300 million.
KE has urged residents to ensure timely payment of their electricity bills to maintain a stable power supply in their neighborhoods.
In a related development, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) recently concluded a public hearing on KE’s request for a fuel charge adjustment (FCA) for February 2025.
Chaired by NEPRA Chairman Waseem Mukhtar, the hearing reviewed KE’s petition seeking a Rs6.62 per unit reduction in tariff under the monthly FCA mechanism. NEPRA stated that a final decision would be announced after a comprehensive review of all submitted data and statistics.
