Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has said that reorganizing the National Police Academy (NPA) to meet international standards is a top government priority.
Chairing a high-level meeting during his visit to the NPA, Naqvi stressed that the ultimate goal is to establish a National Police University. He instructed officials to finalize all preparations for launching a master’s degree program for trainee officers as soon as possible.
Highlighting the Academy’s key role in improving the country's policing system, Naqvi said, "Our aim is to make the NPA an institution of international standard, where officers from abroad also come for training." He also directed that IT and cybercrime courses be made a core part of training programs to meet modern needs.
Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, Secretary Interior, Commandant NPA, DG FIA, Chairman CDA, IG Islamabad Police, and other officials attended the meeting.
Commandant NPA Muhammad Idrees Ahmed briefed the minister on the master plan for the Academy’s reorganization, noting that phased implementation has already begun. He said the best officers from all four provinces are being appointed as Course Commandants and Assistant Course Commandants.
The meeting reviewed progress on the Academy’s modern upgradation plan, which marks the first major project after a 31-year gap. It includes constructing new classrooms and renovating residential blocks for trainee officers.
Naqvi visited the upgraded facilities and directed that the project be completed within six months. He also handed over a cheque of Rs250 million from the National Police Foundation to the Commandant for the upgradation work.
