At least seven people were killed and 15 injured in a blast in Wana, South Waziristan on Monday, according to the deputy commissioner.
Officials said the apparent target was a local peace committee leader. Rescue operations are underway, and the injured are being shifted to nearby hospitals, where an emergency has been declared at DHQ Wana.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi strongly condemned the attack, offering prayers for the victims and wishing a speedy recovery for the injured. He said such cowardly acts would not weaken the nation’s resolve to eradicate terrorism.
Meanwhile, security forces recently foiled a major infiltration attempt along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.
According to a statement by the ISPR, during the nights of April 25-26 and April 26-27, militant groups attempted to cross into Pakistan through the Hassan Khel area of North Waziristan. Pakistani troops, monitoring the movement, swiftly engaged the militants, killing all 54 in an exchange of fire.
The ISPR emphasized Pakistan’s consistent demand for the Afghan government to ensure effective border management.
