Police and the capital administration sealed all routes leading to Islamabad’s Red Zone by placing containers late Saturday night, ahead of Jamaat-e-Islami’s (JI) planned Gaza solidarity protest on Sunday (today).
Security has been heightened across the federal capital, with police warning of strict action against anyone attempting to take the law into their own hands. Additional contingents of law enforcement personnel have been deployed to deal with any untoward situation.
JI Emir Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman had earlier announced that a massive solidarity march would be held in Islamabad on April 20 as part of a broader campaign to protest Israeli aggression in Gaza and U.S. support for Israel.
Addressing party workers, Hafiz Naeem said millions would gather in Islamabad for what he termed a “historic” march. He also announced a nationwide strike on April 22, aligning with the Global Call for Gaza.
“People across the world are expressing hatred for Israel and the US,” the JI chief said. “Israel is murdering innocent children, and once again, the US has proven itself to be a global terrorist.”
The protest is part of a growing wave of international demonstrations in support of Palestinians amid the ongoing conflict in Gaza.
